Organic Farmers Association
Land Access Feature Article

Client: Organic Farmers Association
Project Type: Magazine feature with farmer interviews

The Challenge

The Organic Farmers Association (OFA) needed a comprehensive feature article about land access challenges for their September magazine issue—a complex topic that required balancing technical depth with broad appeal for both experienced farmers and supporter members. The challenge was conducting original interviews with diverse farmers across the country while weaving their stories into a cohesive narrative that would educate readers about structural barriers, celebrate mentorship programs like the Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP), and inspire continued engagement with OFA's mission.

My Approach

I conducted interviews with five farmers across different regions, scales, and production systems, from a 3-acre California vineyard to a 4,000-acre Montana grain operation. Rather than just reporting problems, I focused on solutions and creativity, showing how farmers are finding innovative paths to land access. I structured the piece to move from challenges to opportunities to resources, ending with actionable next steps. The goal was making readers feel empowered rather than discouraged about the future of organic farming.
